Dakota Gasification CO2 Compressor and Pipeline

Location: Beulah to Portal, ND

Client: Dakota Gasification Company

Services: Geotechnical evaluation and construction materials testing

Year: 2007

Dakota Gasification Company uses lignite coal to make synthetic natural gas, which is piped to Saskatchewan, Canada.

We were retained to provide a geotechnical evaluation and construction materials testing for a new compressor station in Beulah, ND and a pipeline from Beulah to Portal, ND. For the compressor station, we conducted a geotechnical evaluation, characterizing subsurface geologic conditions and evaluating their impact on design and construction. We also performed rebar inspection, concrete and soil testing, excavation observations, and cement grout and epoxy grout replacement observations and testing. For the 167-mile pipeline corridor, which included the crossing beneath Lake Sakakawea, we performed all of the deep crossing borings from barges.
