LABORATORY ABILITIES
Braun Intertec operates a full-service concrete testing laboratory where we routinely test thousands of concrete test cylinders, grout prisms, brick and masonry blocks annually. As part of our materials laboratory, we also provide petrographic laboratory services, analyzing concrete, mortar and aggregate samples. Our specialists perform durability testing such as freeze-thaw and alkali-silica reactivity tests on concrete and all raw materials used to produce concrete. When your projects have unique testing requirements, we develop new and specialized testing to meet your needs.
Our materials laboratory and analytical laboratory provide both physical and chemical analysis of materials. Capabilities include:
- Concrete batching
- Compressive and tensile strength testing
- Shrinkage and creep testing
- Chemical admixture qualification and testing (ASTM C494 and ASTM C260)
- Alkali aggregate reaction and durability testing
- Freeze-thaw testing
- Environmental chambers of various sizes
We use the following specialized equipment to perform in-depth analysis:
- X-ray diffractometer
- Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP)
- Gas chromatography - mass spectrometer

Our laboratory staff has a wide breadth of experience and the capability to handle almost any project. Braun Intertec has done large-scale projects for the Federal Highway Administration and the US Army Corps of Engineers, along with research and development for multi-national companies such as Cargill.
Some of our laboratory and personnel credentials include:
- Accreditation by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Accreditation Program. Our laboratory in Minneapolis carries accreditation for a wide range of testing including concrete, hot-mix asphalt, aggregate, soil, masonry, rebar and SFRM
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications: Concrete Strength Testing Technician; Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I; Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level I & II; Concrete Construction Special Inspector
- Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) Certified Construction Technicians, Level I & II; Concrete Field Inspector, Level I & II; Concrete Plant Inspector, Level I & II
- Validation by the US Army Corps of Engineers
