DREDGED SEDIMENT ANALYSIS
Dredged sediment from our waters can be full of contaminants that must be disposed of in accordance with regulated governmental guidelines. Dredged sediment commonly refers to material that is excavated at or below the ordinary high water level of ponds, basins or public waters. They typically include material that is removed from shipping channels and harbors. Characterization of the sediment must be completed before the dredging activity takes place. This EPA site details the federal regulations that pertain to dredged materials management.
A growing concern in sediment contamination is the compound Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP). This compound has been studied extensively and serves as a reference compound. We test for the presence of BaP and other chemical contamination. If contaminants are found, we can assist you with the proper methods for disposal or reuse.
